An Integrative Approach to Stroop: Combining a Language Model and a Unified Cognitive Theory
نویسندگان
چکیده
The rich empirical puzzle of the Stroop effect has traditionally been approached with narrowly focused and somewhat atheoretical models. A recent exception is a simulation model based on the WEAVER++ language theory. The present model, WACT, combines components of WEAVER++ with the memory and control processes of the ACT-R cognitive theory. WACT accounts for the time course of inhibition from incongruent word distractors, facilitation from congruent word distractors, the lack of effect of color distractors, and the semantic gradient in inhibition. WACT goes beyond WEAVER++ to account for Stroop performance errors as well as latencies, and its implementation in a unified cognitive theory opens doors to broader coverage of Stroop phenomena than standalone models are likely to attain. Documented and executable code for WACT is available for inspection and comment at www.msu.edu/~ema/stroop.

Towards constructing an Integrative, Multi-Level Model for Cognition: The Function of Semantic Networks
Integrated approaches try to connect different constructs in different theories and reinterpret them using a common conceptual framework. In this research, using the concept of processing levels, an integrated, three-level model of the cognitive systems has been proposed and evaluated. Processing levels are divided into three categories of Feature-Oriented, Semantic and Conceptual Level based o...

متن کاملExploring the Use of Cognitive Models in AI Applications Using the Stroop Effect
Using a generalized adaptive framework for unified cognitive modeling, we replicate human performance on a standard Stroop task within an explanatory computational model of vision, language and higher order processing. Having shown the ability to generate similar results to its human counterpart on a Stroop Test evaluation, we discuss how a succession of similar tests on well-understood phenome...
متن کاملAn Executive Approach Based On the Production of Fuzzy Ontology Using the Semantic Web Rule Language Method (SWRL)
Today, the need to deal with ambiguous information in semantic web languages is increasing. Ontology is an important part of the W3C standards for the semantic web, used to define a conceptual standard vocabulary for the exchange of data between systems, the provision of reusable databases, and the facilitation of collaboration across multiple systems. However, classical ontology is not enough ...
